Minimally Invasive Surgery

Using a small incision, micro instruments, and a microscope or endoscope, our surgeons are able to conduct medical procedures with minimal tissue exposure. Minimally invasive surgery results in less downtime and often better results than regular surgical methods.

Benefits of minimally invasive surgery

Minimally invasive surgeries carry a great deal of benefits which cannot be replicated by traditional surgical methods. These include significantly faster recovery times, reduced blood loss, minimised risk of infections, and less pain than regular surgical methods. Minimising the size of the surgical incision also minimises the resulting scar, providing a better aesthetic result.

Treatments available

Neuro Spine Clinic is proud to offer a wide variety of minimally-invasive spinal surgeries. These include microdiscectomy, laminectomy, and some tumour removals. By using intra-operative imaging (fluoscopy or CT scans), we can also perform certain fusion procedures using minimally invasive techniques. These procedures include percutaneous pedicle screw fixation and anterior cervical disc fusion/replacement.

Is minimally invasive surgery right for me?

Not all forms of surgery can be performed using minimally invasive techniques. Some forms of surgery may require a degree of manoeuvrability which can’t take place using a minimally invasive technique or may require insertion or extraction of an object too large to pass through the small opening. Sometimes unforeseen complications can arise which mean a surgeon may have to switch to an open-surgery technique during the procedure to ensure a positive outcome.
